ILORIN, KWARA STATE – The Kwara State Government under the leadership of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has concluded a five-day capacity building training program for 100 livestock farmers and value chain actors on commercial fodder production and value addition.
According to a statement released by Yusuf Ganiyu Adebisi, Project Communication and ICT Officer, Kwara L-PRES, the training program was organized by the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), a World Bank-assisted project.
The program, conducted by the Centre for Dryland Agriculture, Bayero University Kano, in partnership with S G Imperial Concept Limited, aimed to enhance food security, economic livelihood, and address persistent farmers/herders’ clashes in the state.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Mr. Olusoji Oyawoye, State Project Coordinator, represented by Mr. Nureni AbdulRasaq, Project Extension Officer, commended the participants’ commitment to transforming the livestock sector.
“The knowledge and skills gained during this training will help in the commercialization of fodder production and value chain addition, enhance the livelihood of farmers, communities, and contribute to food security in the state,” Oyawoye said.
Dr. Akeem Ajeigbe, lead facilitator from CDA, emphasized the need to mechanize, intensify, and commercialize agriculture to feed Nigeria’s growing population, projected to reach 300 million in 25 years.
Mallam Abdulraheem Yahaya Onikpe, a participant, expressed gratitude to the state government and its partners for the opportunity to improve their knowledge in livestock farming.
The training program is part of the Kwara State Government’s efforts to promote agricultural development and food security in the state.
