The United Kingdom (UK) has placed Nigeria and 53 other countries on its red list.

According to the revised code of practice for the international recruitment of health and social care personnel in England.
The code of practice which just got revised this week is a ‘No-smiling-one’.
The list is intended to discourage UK health and social care employers from seeking to recruit staff from these countries.
Employers are advised to check the red country list before any recruitment drive.
The code also defines active international recruitment as the targeted marketing of UK employment opportunities.
This is to individuals for roles in the UK health or social care sector.
The code applies to all international health and social care personnel, including temporary and locum staff.
The UK suspended the recruitment of healthcare workers from Nigeria and 46 other countries earlier in 2021, citing concerns about the scale of such migration.
The revised code, health and social care organizations in England are advised to avoid recruiting from countries identified on the red-listed list countries are pleased there unless there is a government-to-government-agreement to support managed recruitment activities.
The red list countries of ‘No active recruitment’ in alphabetical order are:
Afghanistan, Angola, Bangladesh, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Côte d’Ivoire,
Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Kiribati, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Lesotho, Liberia.
Other countries are Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Federated States of Micronesia, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Rwanda, Samoa,
Senegal, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, United Republic of Tanzania, Timor-Leste, Togo, Tuvalu, Uganda, Vanuatu, Republic of Yemen, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
