Akeredolu: I Have Lost My Friend And Brother – Fayemi
The Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) and former governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has expressed his deep sorrow over the demise of His Excellency, Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), the governor of Ondo State.
Akeredolu, who had been battling leukemia for months, died on Wednesday at a hospital in Abuja. He was 67 years old.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, Fayemi paid tribute to the late Akeredolu, describing him as a nationalist and statesman who dedicated his life to the service of his people and the nation.
Fayemi said he had a close and cordial relationship with Akeredolu, whom he regarded as a true friend and brother. He said they worked together on several national issues, both in and out of government, to improve the welfare of the masses.
He also praised Akeredolu for his courage and integrity, saying he was a fearless advocate of the oppressed and a champion of equity, fairness, and justice. He said Akeredolu was passionate about the ideals of democracy and good governance, and always spoke his mind on matters of national interest.
Fayemi further lauded Akeredolu for his achievements as a lawyer, a former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and a governor. He said Akeredolu transformed the development of Ondo State with his infrastructural and socio-economic programs, leaving a lasting legacy for posterity.
Fayemi said he was deeply saddened by Akeredolu’s death, but consoled by the fact that he lived a memorable and exemplary life. He extended his heartfelt condolences to Akeredolu’s family, the people of Ondo State, and all Nigerians. He prayed that God would grant the departed soul eternal rest.
