The Nationwide League One (NLO) Secretariat has handed down stiff sanctions to both DOHZ FA and La’Planet FC following disturbing incidents of hooliganism and assault on match officials during their encounter on May 4, 2025, in Ilorin.
According to official correspondence sent to the Kwara State Football Association and made available to the press, the NLO condemned the unsportsmanlike conduct exhibited by both clubs, describing the scenes as a breach of Article 4.07 (1-4) of the league’s rules which prohibit intimidation and harassment of match officials before, during, and after matches.
In the case involving DOHZ FA, the NLO reported that club officials and supporters physically assaulted match officials during the game. As a result, the league has awarded a 3-0 victory to La’Planet FC. Additionally:
Mr. Tunde Sanni, a DOHZ FA official, has been suspended indefinitely from all NLO-related activities.
DOHZ FA must pay N100,000 to the NLO account before their next fixture or risk forfeiting the match.
Another N100,000 fine is to be paid to the Kwara State Referee Council to cover the medical expenses of injured match officials and the replacement of damaged referee kits.
The matter has also been escalated to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Disciplinary Committee for further action.
In a separate letter, the NLO also sanctioned La’Planet FC following video evidence showing Mr. Abdulmalik Olasunkanmi, a club official, persistently harassing both match and league officials. The league body also confirmed:
An indefinite suspension for Abdulmalik Olasunkanmi from all NLO events.
A three-match ban for the team manager of La’Planet FC, Moshood Olalekan, following a red card incident in the same fixture.
La’Planet FC is also required to pay N100,000 to the NLO account before their next league match or face potential forfeiture.
Both clubs have been warned that any future infractions may attract heavier sanctions. The NLO stressed its zero-tolerance policy for violence and misconduct, vowing to protect the integrity of the game and the safety of its officials.
The fallout from this controversial encounter continues to generate reactions within the Kwara football community, with stakeholders calling for restraint and professionalism from all league participants.
