Businessman Hits Wife’s Head Against Wall, Victim Dies
A woman, Rafiat Okewole, 30, has died after her husband, Wole Okewole, 41, allegedly slammed her head against the wall in his house in Ota, Ogun State. The incident occurred on Sunday when Rafiat visited Wole to demand money for the maintenance of their children.
Rafiat, who was Wole’s second wife, had been living separately from him on Odelusi Street, in the Ijoko area of Ota. She had been having issues with him over his neglect of their children.
According to witnesses, Wole attacked Rafiat during an argument and hit her head on the wall, causing her to lose consciousness. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The case was reported to the Sango Divisional Police Headquarters by one of Rafiat’s brothers, Yusuf Osho. He said he got a call from his wife informing him of his sister’s death.
He said he went to the hospital and saw Rafiat’s corpse. Also said Wole was still bragging that he would get away with the murder.
Rafiat’s sister, Basirat Liasu, said Rafiat’s daughter, who accompanied her to Wole’s house, witnessed the assault.
She said the girl told neighbours that Wole had been maltreating Rafiat and forcing her to carry a banned substance called Colorado on her body. She said Rafiat did not know who Wole sold the drug to.
Rafiat’s brother, Akinola Shittu, said he was devastated by the news of his sister’s death. He said Rafiat came to Lagos from Ilorin two months ago with Wole’s mother.
He said Wole was a businessman who dealt in drinks.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest of Wole. She said he would be charged with murder after an investigation.
She said Rafiat’s body had been taken to the mortuary for autopsy. Also said Rafiat’s daughter would be handed over to her family.
