The Technical Adviser of El-Kanemi Warriors Football Club, Coach Kabiru Suleiman Dogo, on Monday 4th of August 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the Shehu of Borno, His Royal Highness Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, at his palace in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Coach Dogo, who also holds a traditional title under the Emir of Ilorin, was accompanied by a prominent club supporter, Shettima Abdullahi Conti, and two other officials. The visit was facilitated by the Emir of Ilorin, His Royal Highness Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, and aimed at seeking royal blessings and support for the coach and the team ahead of the 2025/2026 football season.
During the visit, Coach Dogo expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality he has received since assuming his role in Borno and praised the welcoming spirit of the people.
“Your Highness, I was well received in your land by all and sundry. Kindly help me extend my gratitude to all those involved in the football circle in Maiduguri. Insha Allah, I will not allow anything to tarnish the image and reputation of Borno State and El-Kanemi Warriors FC,” he said.
In response, the Shehu of Borno assured Coach Dogo of his full support and that of the entire Borno Emirate.
“I am proud of you. Go and make us proud. I am a hundred percent supporter of El-Kanemi Warriors FC. May Allah grant us a successful season,” the royal father declared.
As a gesture of honor and appreciation, Coach Dogo presented a branded El-Kanemi Warriors FC jersey to the Shehu, symbolizing the unity between the traditional institution and the football community.
The visit reinforces the growing bond between traditional leadership and sports development in Borno State, and is seen as a spiritual and cultural boost ahead of the new season.
Coach Dogo’s respectful homage and the Shehu’s royal endorsement set a positive tone for El-Kanemi Warriors FC, affectionately known as “Zulum Boys”, as they gear up for a strong campaign in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
