The leadership of Adanla community in Irese, Kwara State, has distanced itself from a publication alleging that the community accused government and security agencies of abandoning nine kidnapped victims despite the payment of a ₦40 million ransom.
In a statement jointly issued by the Elerin-in-Council and the National Executive of the Adanla Community Development Association (ACDA), the community described the report, allegedly published by Afrika Eyes on March 6, 2026, as misleading and not reflective of the position of the community.
According to the statement signed by the Elerin of Adanla-Irese, Oba/Dr. David S.O. Oyerinola Adedunmoye, and the National President of ACDA, Elder Philip O. Adigun, the community did not at any time accuse the government or security agencies of abandoning them during the ordeal.
The leaders clarified that the community never authorised anyone to speak on its behalf in that regard, stressing that the publication does not represent the views of Adanla people.
They noted that from the moment the nine indigenes were abducted on December 26 last year, government and security agencies had been making efforts to ensure their safe rescue.
“These efforts eventually culminated in the successful liberation of the nine victims without injury,” the statement said.
The community leaders also emphasized that security operations are often sensitive and cannot always be discussed publicly, warning that the silence of government on such matters should not be misconstrued as ineptitude.
They commended the roles played by government at the local, state, and federal levels, as well as security agencies, in ensuring the safety and protection of citizens across Kwara State.
The community further expressed gratitude to individuals, groups, and associations that supported their efforts toward securing the release of the abducted victims.
Adanla leaders also urged media organisations to always verify information with relevant authorities before publication in order to avoid sensationalism and misinformation.
The statement concluded with prayers for the continued peace and security of Adanla community, Kwara State, and Nigeria as a whole.
