Every Child Counts: Governor AbdulRazaq Sponsors Tuition of Over 50 Street-Connected Children

The Kwara State Government has disclosed that over 50 street-connected children, ranging from basic to secondary school levels, are currently benefiting from Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s tuition-free education and feeding, explaining that most of these children are vulnerable and were rescued after being abandoned by their parents.

The Commissioner for Social Development, Hajia Mariam Nnafatima Imam, PhD, confirmed this on Tuesday during the Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing organised by the State Ministry of Communications, held at the Ministry of Finance conference room, Ilorin.

The Commissioner revealed that the children are kept at the state Child Reception Centre (CRC) where their needs are being attended to by the state government towards a stable state of the mind, noting that the state government will not only provide for their feeding and education but also cater for the health and overall well-being of the children to enable them enjoy a good life.

She stated that rescuing and supporting vulnerable and street-connected children who are often victims of poverty, family abuse, conflict or neglect, is part of the social responsibilities of the present administration, promising the state government’s continuing efforts on child protection and social reintegration.

Hajia Imam also said that the Kwara State Government has partnered with Al-Sadiq Foundation to empower the vulnerable in the society, expressing that the partnership aims to provide skills acquisition and job creation for the vulnerable groups to enhance financial system in their lives.

The Commissioner described this effort as part of the state government’s response to eradicate the suffering of the vulnerable people in the society and empower them to be independent.
