Recently, Former Commonwealth Table Tennis Champion, Atanda Musa, popularly known as “Mansa Musa,” has praised Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for his transformative efforts in developing sports in Kwara State.
In an exclusive interview with Pristinegist Media, Musa expressed his pride in being recognized by his home state, especially with the recent naming of the state’s Ultra-Modern Table Tennis Arena in his honor.
“I’m deeply honored and grateful to Governor Abdulrazaq for naming the Table Tennis Arena after me,” Musa said. “It’s a recognition I hold dear, and it reflects the governor’s commitment to celebrating and promoting Kwara’s sporting legends. I’ve traveled the world, and it’s heartwarming to see Kwara State developing into the vision I’ve always had for it.” He added, “Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has truly immortalized his name through his achievements in the sports sector. I pray for his continued success and divine guidance.”
During a courtesy visit to Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Musa pledged his support for maintaining the arena and announced plans to organize a Table Tennis competition for children in the state. He also shared his secret to success: self-discipline. “Discipline was my guiding principle as a player, and I advise upcoming players to make it their watchword if they want to excel,” he added.
Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji praised Musa as a “dedicated, humble, and respectful” athlete whose achievements have brought pride to Kwara. Musa, who now works with the U.S.-based sporting organization J.P. Morgan, thanked Mogaji for his tireless contributions to sports development in Kwara.
Musa also visited the newly completed Multi-Million Naira Bola Magaji Squash Courts at the Late General George Innih Stadium Complex in Ilorin. Describing the courts as “world-class,” Musa remarked, “I’ve never seen squash courts of this standard anywhere in the world.” He thanked Governor Abdulrazaq for his heavy investments in sports infrastructure.
Mallam Mogaji revealed that Governor Abdulrazaq’s passion for squash dates back to the 1970s when they played the sport together. “His Excellency’s presence at a squash game in 2020 inspired the construction of eight new courts to complement the existing ones,” Mogaji explained.
Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s ongoing commitment to Kwara’s sports development continues to earn accolades, promising a bright future for athletes in the state.
