Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has taken a significant step to address the transportation challenges faced by students and workers in public tertiary institutions in Ilorin, the capital city of Kwara State, and its surrounding areas.
The governor has given his approval for the deployment of government buses to assist in the movement of these individuals.
This initiative comes as part of the Kwara government’s efforts to mitigate the impact of the removal of fuel subsidies.
However, it is the second phase of measures introduced by the government to alleviate the burden on the people.
In a bid to optimize resources, the government had previously implemented a reduction in workdays for civil servants, reducing the number of working days from five to three per week. Simultaneously, government officials have been working on developing additional measures to support workers who are exempted from this policy.
According to a statement released by the Kwara State Government House on Sunday, starting from Wednesday, June 14, large buses will be deployed to transport students of public tertiary institutions within the metropolis, including those attending the Kwara State University campus at Malete.
The coordinating Ministries, Agencies, and Departments (MDAs) will provide further details regarding this transportation arrangement.
The statement also emphasized that the state government remains committed to offering immediate support to the people of Kwara as Nigeria transitions permanently to the post-fuel subsidy regime. The government aims to implement various measures to bring ease to the public while fostering sustainable economic growth.
By providing government buses for the transportation of students and workers, the Kwara State Government aims to address the challenges faced by these individuals in commuting to and from their respective institutions.
