Gov AbdulRazaq’s Infrastructure Drive Shows Results
Former Nigeria international and General Manager of Kada Warriors FC, Mr. Garba Lawal, has described the playing surface at the Rashidi Yekini Mainbowl, George Innih Stadium, Ilorin, as being of “European standard,” following his team’s 1–0 victory over ABS FC in their Nigeria National League (NNL) Matchday Six encounter.
Lawal, who earned 57 caps for the Super Eagles, made the remarks while speaking with journalists after the match, highlighting the quality of the pitch and its impact on the overall standard of play.
The condition of the playing surface is a reflection of the ongoing investment in sports infrastructure in Kwara State under the administration of His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, whose government has prioritised the upgrade and maintenance of sporting facilities as part of a broader youth and sports development agenda.
The sustained quality of the Rashidi Yekini Mainbowl has also been supported through the oversight and facility management responsibilities of the Kwara State Sports Commission, led by Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, ensuring that the stadium meets acceptable standards for national competitions.
Speaking further, Lawal noted that well-maintained pitches enhance the quality of football, reduce the risk of injuries, and allow players to express themselves better during matches benefits that have become increasingly evident at the Ilorin stadium.
He also disclosed that similar infrastructural upgrades are being pursued in Kaduna State, revealing that renovation work has commenced at the ABS Stadium in Kaduna in a bid to improve facilities for clubs and players.
The positive assessment of the Ilorin playing surface underscores Kwara State’s growing reputation as a destination for quality football infrastructure, reinforcing the state’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for football development at all levels.
