Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has congratulated 17-year-old Abdul Jabar Adama on winning a historic silver medal at the ongoing World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships in Romania.
Adama clocked 23.64 seconds in the men’s 50m Butterfly final to secure Nigeria’s first-ever medal at a global swimming event, a feat Governor AbdulRazaq described as “trail-blazing and inspiring.”
The Governor, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, on Sunday, said Adama’s latest achievement further validates his rising profile in world swimming, coming just months after he won two gold medals for Nigeria at the 16th Africa Junior Swimming Championships held in Cairo between April and May 2025.
“We are confident that this is just the start of a career destined for the highest honours attainable,” the Governor said. “We wish Adama, the national swimming sensation, a brighter future in good health and amid increasing national and global recognitions.”
Adama’s silver medal is being celebrated across Nigeria as a breakthrough moment for the country in aquatic sports, marking a significant milestone for Kwara State and Nigeria at large.
