Bola Mogaji pledges stronger support for para-sports as beneficiaries receive empowerment tools
Kwara State joined the global community today, December 3rd, 2025, to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities with a strong message of inclusion, empowerment, and social progress.
The event, held at the Handball Court of the George Innih Stadium, Taiwo Road, Ilorin, featured a series of activities including para-handball, trade exhibitions, and a special empowerment session for People Living With Disabilities (PLWD).
This year’s celebration, themed “Fostering Disability-Inclusive Societies For Advancing Social Progress,” was organized by the Ministry of Social Development under the leadership of Commissioner Dr. Mariam Nnafatima Imam.
As part of the empowerment initiative, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, through the Ministry, provided various assistive tools such as wheelchairs, modern walking sticks, crutches, and skin-protection creams for persons with albinism. Many beneficiaries also received financial support courtesy of the governor’s commitment to improving the well-being of PLWD across the state.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Coach Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, praised Governor AbdulRazaq for his consistent support both financial and moral toward sports development and the welfare of persons with disabilities. He emphasized that Kwara is blessed with world-class para-athletes who continue to bring honor to the state on national and global stages.
Coach Mogaji reaffirmed the Commission’s readiness to provide more opportunities for para-athletes, noting that sports remain a powerful tool for integration and empowerment. He also commended the Commissioner for Social Development, Dr. Imam, for integrating sports, empowerment, and a trade fair into this year’s commemoration, giving PLWD a strong sense of belonging and visibility.
The highlight of the event was a para-handball match where Team Kwara defeated Team Ekiti 3–0, further showcasing the strength and determination of the state’s athletes.
Participants and guests were also treated to an exhibition of products creatively crafted by persons living with disabilities, underscoring their entrepreneurial potential and contributions to the economy.
The 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities in Kwara State ended on an inspiring note, reinforcing the government’s resolve to build an inclusive society where everyone regardless of ability has opportunities to thrive and contribute to social progress.
