Governor AbdulRahman’s Support Yielding Results, Says Mogaji as Junior Africa Scrabble Stars Visit

The young scrabble stars from Kwara State who made Nigeria proud at the recently concluded Africa Junior Scrabble Championship in Kenya, on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, at the George Innih Agbazika Stadium, Ilorin.
The delegation, which included three medal-winning players, their coach, the Chairman of the Kwara State Scrabble Association, and members of their families, were warmly received by Mallam Mogaji and his board members.
The visiting athletes comprised:
Aliu Abdulqudus (U-19) – 2nd Place
Olojoku Sufyan Boluwatife, 18 (Ex-student, Government Day Secondary School, Adewole) – 3rd Place, U-19 Category
Olojoku Hassan, 14 (Government Day Secondary School, Adewole) – 3rd Place, U-15 Category
Olosun Khalid, 16 (Government High School, Adewole) – strong representation in the U-19 category.
Their remarkable performances contributed significantly to Nigeria’s overall dominance at the championship, where the country emerged as the top-performing nation.
Welcoming the champions, Mogaji expressed delight over their achievements and praised them for lifting Kwara and Nigeria’s image on the international stage.
He lauded Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for sponsoring the Kwara contingent, describing the governor’s continued support as a driving force behind the state’s steady rise in youth and sports development.
“Your success has once again confirmed that Kwara is becoming a breeding ground for champions, not just in physical sports but also in mind games like scrabble,” Mogaji said, assuring the players of continuous support from the Sports Commission.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Chairman of the Kwara State Scrabble Association thanked the Executive Chairman for the warm reception and reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to nurturing more young talents who can compete and excel on the global stage.
The courtesy visit ended with group photographs and words of encouragement from the Sports Commission board members to the athletes and their families.
