Kwara-born para-badminton star, Mariam Abolaji Eniola, today received a cheque of ₦5 million earlier announced by the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, in recognition of her historic feat at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
The presentation took place at the office of the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, who hosted the decorated athlete, her family, and other well-wishers.
Mariam Eniola Bolaji, a product of Kwara’s grassroots sports system, etched her name in history at the Paris Paralympics when she won Team Nigeria’s first medal in the Para-Badminton Women’s Singles SL3 event, bringing pride and glory to the state and the nation.
Speaking at the presentation, Eniola expressed deep gratitude to Governor AbdulRazaq for his unwavering support to athletes and for his investments in sports development across the state.
“I sincerely appreciate His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for this huge support and encouragement. This gesture will further inspire me to work harder and continue making Kwara and Nigeria proud on the global stage,” she said.
She also thanked the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, for his mentorship and consistent guidance in her career.
“Mallam Mogaji has been a pillar of support not just to me but to many athletes in Kwara. His leadership has created a positive environment for sports development in the state,” Eniola added.
In his remarks, Mogaji commended Mariam for her resilience and determination, describing her as “a shining symbol of Kwara’s sporting excellence.” He noted that her success is a testament to the state’s growing reputation for producing champions, and assured that the Commission would continue to support her career.
The cheque presentation marks the formal fulfillment of Governor AbdulRazaq’s promise, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to rewarding excellence and empowering athletes who bring honor to the state and the country.
