The organisers of the 2nd edition of the Governor’s Cup in Erin Ile on Friday paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Coach Bola Mogaji, ahead of the tournament’s grand finale scheduled for Monday, September 9, 2025.
As part of the visit, the organisers formally presented the trophies and medals for the competition to Coach Mogaji, in recognition of the Commission’s role in driving sports development across the state.
The Governor’s Cup, sponsored by Hon. Muritala Awolola, Chairman of Moje Queens Football Club, is an empowerment initiative designed to complement the Kwara State Government’s grassroots sports development agenda.
Presenting the trophies and medals on behalf of the sponsor, Alhaja Sherifat Lawal, wife of Hon. Awolola, alongside members of the organising committee—Alhaji Salahudeen Kabir Dunga and Jamiu Dodo—reaffirmed the sponsor’s mission to empower the youth through impactful and sustainable sporting programmes.
This year’s edition featured 21 teams across the state, with Elite FC of Ilorin and Wasper FC of Erin Ile booking their places in the much-anticipated finals. The grand finale will be staged in Erin Ile on Sunday, with attractive cash prizes on offer—₦1 million for the champions, along with rewards for the first and second runners-up.
In his remarks, Coach Bola Mogaji praised the organisers and sponsor for their foresight and commitment to youth empowerment through football, describing the initiative as a vital complement to government efforts.
“The Kwara State Sports Commission is proud of this initiative. It is through platforms like the Governor’s Cup that talents are identified, nurtured, and supported for greater opportunities. We commend Hon. Awolola and the organising committee for this laudable contribution to grassroots sports development in the state,” Mogaji said.
