Police officer reportedly had beheaded by gunmen in Abia State.
The victim, who has only been given the name Linus, was allegedly murdered on East Street in Ndiegoro, Aba, Abia State.
On Tuesday at around 5:00 a.m., the assailants opened fire on Linus and his colleagues as they were at Tenant Road along East Street.
Linus (a.k.a. Agbalagba), an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), was allegedly beaten while the other police officers in the squad allegedly fled the site after spotting the criminals.
Vanguard claims that the ASP’s head was severed off by the criminals, who also fled with his weapons and uniform.
Residents of East Street, Ngwa Road, Akpu Road, Ndoki Street, Etche Road, and Ulasi Road—all located within the Ndiegoro axis—were said to have experienced tension as a result of the gruesome killing on Tuesday. The criminals allegedly threatened to attack more police officers and residents, according to a resident who requested anonymity.
“From what we’ve heard, they claim to have waged war on the locals and the police. I don’t know what happened, but the way they killed the policeman—removing his head—and the shouts we overheard while they were carrying out the attack indicate that Aba is experiencing a crisis, the local reportedly stated.
