Kwara State has once again taken the lead in advancing inclusive sports development as the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, on Tuesday, 9 December 2025, officially unveiled the maiden edition of the North Central Amputee Football League.
The unveiling took place today at the temporary office of the executive chairman inside George Innih Stadium Ilorin Kwara State today 9th of December 2025 as the groundbreaking competition is scheduled to be held in Ilorin from 14–16 December 2025.
This historic initiative will see amputee football teams from Niger, Plateau, the host state, and others compete in what is set to become a flagship sporting event for persons with disabilities in the North Central zone. The league stands as a major stride toward strengthening adaptive sports and widening opportunities for athletes across the region.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Mallam Mogaji expressed profound appreciation to the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, whose unwavering support for both mainstream and disability sports continues to drive the state’s impressive sports transformation. He noted that the governor’s commitment to inclusion and athlete empowerment remains a catalyst for the steady rise of sporting activities in Kwara.
Mallam Mogaji also commended the Nigeria Amputee Football Federation for its continued efforts in nurturing talent and expanding the sport nationwide. He paid special tribute to Special Eagles captain and North Central representative, Sarafadeen Olalekan Oyeleke, whose vision, advocacy, and commitment were instrumental in bringing the league to life.
The unveiling of the North Central Amputee Football League signifies more than the start of a competition; it marks the birth of a sustainable development pathway that will discover new talents, promote inclusion, empower persons with disabilities, and strengthen amputee football from the grassroots upward.
With this bold step, Kwara State has set the pace for the region, reaffirming its leadership in creating opportunities for all athletes. As preparations begin for the kickoff, the future of amputee football in North Central Nigeria has never looked more promising.
