Hospital Dumps Sick Woman At Husband’s Shop In Ibadan
In a shocking incident, a woman suffering from a contagious disease was dumped at the doorstep of her husband’s shop by a hospital in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Friday.
The woman, identified as Blessing Ayeni, had been admitted to the hospital since last year, but was allegedly abandoned by her husband and family members, who refused to pay for her medical bills.
The hospital authorities, who did not disclose their name or location, said they had no choice but to return the woman to her husband’s address, which they obtained from her records.
The husband, who runs a liquor store on Desalu Street, Odo-Ona, was nowhere to be found when the hospital officials arrived with the woman. They left her lying on the floor in front of his locked shop, under the scorching sun.
Residents of the area were shocked and confused by the sight of the woman, who looked frail and weak. They said they did not know what to do, as the hospital officials warned them not to approach the woman, as she could infect them with her disease.
One of the eyewitnesses, Remilekun Tawose, told PRISTINEGIST that the hospital officials claimed that they had visited the husband several times, but he always ignored them or gave excuses. They also said that the woman’s family members had initially shown interest in her condition, but later stopped coming to the hospital.
PRISTINEGIST tried to contact the husband of the woman, but his phone was switched off. The hospital officials also declined to give any further information about the woman or her disease.
The incident has raised questions about the ethics and legality of the hospital’s action, as well as the plight of the woman and her rights as a patient.
