“If I Can Go After My Kinsmen, Why Not You?!” – Olukayode To Yahaya Bello
In a striking declaration of impartial justice, Ola Olukoyede, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has publicly committed to the thorough investigation of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, over alleged financial misconduct amounting to a staggering N80 billion.
The EFCC’s pursuit of Bello intensified on April 18 when the commission marked him as a wanted individual, yet Bello has evaded all court appearances since the declaration. Amidst this legal drama, Olukoyede reached out directly to Bello, a gesture of respect, urging him to voluntarily present himself to the commission to address the pending charges. However, Bello rebuffed the invitation.
In a defiant response, Bello challenged the EFCC to substantiate the claimed invitation, accusing the agency of fabricating falsehoods. The EFCC, undeterred by Bello’s counterclaims, remains resolute in uncovering the truth, dismissing any notion of bias against the former governor.
Olukoyede, emphasizing his commitment, stated, “If I do not personally oversee the completion of the investigation regarding Yahaya Bello, I will tender my resignation as the chairman of the EFCC.” He referenced his track record, citing the arraignment of former governors Willie Obiano and Abdulfatah Ahmed, as well as his own kinsman, Chief Olu Agunloye, demonstrating his adherence to the principle that no individual is above scrutiny.
