The maiden edition of the Kwara South U-15 Table Tennis Championship held in Omu Aran came to an exciting close on Friday, 28th November 2025, with Ifelodun Local Government emerging dominant in both the male and female categories of the grassroots tournament.
The two-day championship, held on November 27 and 28, was organized by Mrs. Yemisi Monisola Makanjuola, Permanent Member representing Kwara South at the Kwara State Sports Commission, with the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, serving as the Chief Host. The event received major sponsorship from Hon. Abdulraheem Olawuyi Tunji Ajuloopin, member of the National Assembly.
Strong Performances Across LGAs
Young athletes representing Ifelodun, Irepodun, Isin, Oke-Ero, Oyun, and Offa LGAs competed intensely for honors in both categories.
In the female finals, Ifelodun defeated Irepodun 2–0 to lift the trophy, while Isin and Oyun shared third place.
The male final saw Ifelodun overpower Offa LG with a 2–0 victory. Oyun and Irepodun settled for joint third place.

Organizers, Officials Commend Governor AbdulRazaq’s Support for Sports
In her remarks, Mrs. Yemisi Monisola Makanjuola expressed gratitude to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his “unstoppable development of sports since 2025”. She applauded the Executive Chairman of the Sports Commission for his leadership and also appreciated Hon. Ajuloopin for sponsoring the maiden edition.
Representing the Executive Chairman, Dele Abubakar Seleto (MON) assured that the Commission would continue to prioritize youth development through sports in line with the governor’s vision.
Also speaking, Hon. Yunusa Abdullahi Lade, Permanent Member representing Kwara North, praised the level of organisation and the discovery of fresh talents, including para-table tennis prospects.
Former Federal Commissioner at the Public Complaints Commission, Hon. Bidemi Olawunmi, commended Governor AbdulRazaq for appointing sports-inclined individuals—rather than traditional politicians—to lead the sector. He praised Mogaji, Monisola, and Dele Abubakar as personalities whose sports backgrounds are contributing to the transformation of sports in the state.
Former TIC Chairman of Irepodun LG, Hon. Jide Oyinloye, expressed appreciation to all stakeholders for supporting the championship.
Royal Blessings
The Olomu of Omu-Aran, His Royal Majesty Oba Abdulraheem Oladele Adeoti, offered royal blessings for the young athletes and organisers.
He praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his remarkable contributions to sports development in the state and commended the Executive Chairman of the Sports Commission, Mallam Bola Mogaji, for his dynamic leadership and commitment to promoting sports across Kwara State.
The monarch emphasized that sports remain a powerful tool for shaping future leaders and building stronger communities.

The two-day tournament showcased exceptional young talents and strengthened Kwara South’s commitment to grassroots sports development. With strong support from the Kwara State Sports Commission and its partners, the championship is expected to become a regular platform for discovering future table tennis stars.
