Global law enforcement agency, INTERPOL, has donated crime scene investigation kits and other equipment to the Forensic Department of the Nigeria Police Force and the Maritime Crime Investigation Desk (MCID) of the Nigerian Navy.
The move will aid authorities in the country in their fight against crime.
Presenting the equipment on May 12, 2023 at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, was the Vice President for Africa at INTERPOL, and also the Head of INTERPOL National Central Bureau in Nigeria, AIG Umar Baba Garba, psc.
He was accompanied by the representative of INTERPOL Maritime Security, Mr. Olude Azeez, in presenting the donations.
These donations have expanded the resources of law enforcement agencies in Nigeria, further equipping them to deal with security challenges across the country.
The kits and equipment will help in the prompt investigation of crime scenes and enable the relevant authorities to handle incidents more efficiently and effectively.
INTERPOL’s Vice President has been given added responsibility by Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, in line with his role as Senior Security Adviser on International Police Cooperation and Counter-terrorism.
This appointment ensures that Garba Baba Umar will continue to be a valuable asset in securing donations such as the one recently made.
The donation of the crime scene investigation kits and other equipment is in line with INTERPOL’s ongoing efforts to support national law enforcement agencies in their fight against crime and to enhance their capabilities in responding to the security challenges in their respective countries.
Nigerians authorities warmly welcomed the donation as it’s indicative of the increasing collaboration and cooperation between national and international bodies in the fight against crime and terrorism.
