Kano Hisbah Bans Male Djs From Performing At Female Events
Lagos, May 16, 2024 – The Kano State Hisbah Board has enacted a controversial ban, prohibiting male disc jockeys (DJs) from performing at events primarily attended by women. This directive, issued by the Commander General of the board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, aims to prevent the mixing of genders at social gatherings.
Sheikh Daurawa articulated the board’s stance, declaring the intermingling of males and females at the same event as a catalyst for immorality, thus necessitating the ban. The decision aligns with the state’s adherence to Islamic principles, which guide public conduct.
The board has also engaged with owners and managers of event facilities to ensure they are well-informed about the operational regulations that are now in effect. Ibrahim Abdullahi, representing the DJs, expressed gratitude for the guidance provided by the Hisbah board, emphasizing the importance of respecting prayer times and maintaining gender segregation during events.
DJs are now required to register with the union to receive protection and must comply with the new guidelines to avoid punitive measures. The Hisbah board’s move has sparked discussions on the balance between religious observance and personal freedoms in public life.
