Kwara Athlete Adekunle Gbotemi Shines as Team Nigeria Wins Medals at 2025 African Youth Games in Angola

Team Nigeria recorded an impressive outing at the 2025 African Youth Games in Angola, winning multiple medals across events, with Kwara State proudly represented through the outstanding performance of Adekunle Oluwagbotemi Precious.

In the team event, Nigeria finished second overall, claiming the silver medal, behind Algeria who won gold, while Ghana settled for bronze.

Adekunle Oluwagbotemi Precious, a product of Kwara State, emerged as one of the standout athletes for Team Nigeria, winning one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal. His success in Angola comes shortly after he was rewarded by the Executive Governor of Kwara State, His Excellency Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (CON), earlier this month for his medal-winning performance at the 2025 National Youth Games in Asaba—a recognition that continues to inspire young athletes in the state.
Other Nigerian athletes also contributed significantly to the country’s medal haul. Edun David Damilare finished with one gold, two silver, and one bronze medal, Gbajobi Isreal Oluwajuwon secured one silver and two bronze medals, while Babatunde Dolapo Sandra added one silver and one bronze medal.

Sports stakeholders in Kwara State have commended the sports-friendly policies of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the focused leadership of the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, noting that their sustained investment in youth development and structured sports programmes is steadily translating into podium finishes at national and international competitions.

The achievements recorded in Angola have further reinforced Kwara State’s growing reputation as a centre for nurturing young talents, with expectations high that continued support from the state government and the Sports Commission will produce even more champions for Kwara State and Nigeria in the years ahead.
