Athletes representing Kwara State have recorded encouraging performances at the ongoing 3rd Edition of the Daniel Ford International Youth Invitational Table Tennis Championships in Lagos, competing strongly against top young talents from across the country and beyond.
The Kwara contingent featured in both the Under-15 and Under-19 categories, for male and female divisions, with the championship adopting a round-robin group format. Each group consisted of four players, from which successful athletes progressed to the main draw stage.
Throughout the group phase, Kwara State players demonstrated commendable technical quality, including effective stroke execution, solid hand-eye coordination, tactical discipline, and competitive focus. Despite the high level of opposition and the intensity of match play, the athletes showed resilience, composure, and growing competitive maturity.
At the end of the group matches, three Kwara State athletes successfully secured qualification
into the main draws. They are:
Under-15 Girls: Idris Asiata
Under-19 Girls: Aiyelabegan Sukurat
Under-19 Boys: Abdulfatai Abdulbasit
Their progression into the main draw reflects positive performance development and serves as a strong indicator of Kwara State’s sustained investment in grassroots and youth table tennis development.
Officials noted that beyond qualification, the overall outing provided valuable competitive exposure for the athletes, contributing to their technical growth and readiness for future national and international engagements.
The championship continues in Lagos, with Kwara State hopeful of further positive results as the competition progresses.
