In a renewed effort to bolster security across Kwara State, the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration has donated 150 off-road motorcycles to the Nigerian Army.
The development was announced in a statement released by Olayinka Fafoluyi, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Governor, on Friday, April 26, 2025.
The motorcycles are intended to enhance the mobility and operational effectiveness of troops, particularly in difficult terrains such as forests where non-state actors may be hiding.
The strategic intervention comes amid recent reports of security disturbances in parts of Kwara South and Kwara North. To assess the situation firsthand, Governor AbdulRazaq on Monday, April 21, 2025, led a high-powered joint security team on an operational tour of Kaiama Local Government Area in Kwara North.
Following the assessment tour, the Governor held a crucial meeting with the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, at Ahmadu Bello House in Ilorin. The Army Chief reaffirmed the military’s commitment to collaborating with other security agencies to maintain peace and order in the state.
This donation is the latest in a series of support measures for security forces under Governor AbdulRazaq’s administration. Only a few months ago, the state government provided vehicles and motorcycles to the 22 Armoured Brigade of the Nigerian Army based at Sobi Barracks, Ilorin.
In a complementary move to support grassroots security efforts, local government authorities across Kwara State have collectively procured 320 motorcycles to strengthen the operational capacity of vigilante groups. These motorcycles will be strategically deployed across communities to boost surveillance and rapid response operations.
Governor AbdulRazaq’s continued investment in security infrastructure underscores his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, thereby maintaining Kwara’s reputation as one of the most peaceful states in the country.
