Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has launched the distribution of 73,364 free textbooks, sports kits, and other educational materials to public school pupils across the state.
This move is part of the administration’s efforts to improve learning outcomes and provide quality education.
According to Atere Ameenat Abiola, Press Secretary of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), the distributed items include:
– 73,365 textbooks* on core subjects like English, Mathematics, and computer studies
– 12,780 primary assorted libraries
– 100 pieces of special education materials
– 260 sets of Early Childhood Care, Development and Education (ECCDE) plastic chairs and tables
– 3,931 sports equipment
– 344 sets of agricultural tools
– 78 pieces of tablets (Maga Tab X)
Governor AbdulRazaq emphasized that the free distribution of textbooks aims to alleviate the financial burden on parents, who often struggle with the high cost of instructional materials. He also highlighted the administration’s commitment to education development, citing regular teacher recruitments, promotions, and infrastructure upgrades.
Chairman of the Kwara House Committee on Education, Hon. Muhammed Boriya Salihu, praised the Governor’s consistent investment in the education sector, stating that “with this and many other developmental projects, it is obvious that the state has moved from the ugly past of yesteryears, and a lot of gaps have been filled in several sectors.”
SUBEB Chairman Prof. Sheu Raheem Adaramaja commended the Governor’s unwavering commitment to improving basic education, noting that the distributed materials will enhance the standard of education and sports activities in basic schools, bringing relief to parents and pupils across the state.
