The dominance of Kwara State in squash was once again on full display as six (6) of the state’s junior players stormed the finals across four (4) different categories at the ongoing 6th Expro in Diaspora National Junior Squash Championship holding at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.
The championship, which features athletes from 10 states and 10 squash academies across the country, has seen Kwara’s youngsters prove why the state is widely regarded as the home of squash in West Africa.
Final Fixtures Featuring Kwara Players:
Under-13 Boys: Azim Muhammad (Kwara) vs Awe Ope (Oyo)
Under-11 Boys: Abdulfatai Abdulrasaq (Kwara) vs Samad Animonshau (Kwara)
Under-13 Girls: Susan Balogun (Kwara) vs Gaana Grace (Kwara)
Under-11 Girls: Susan Balogun (Kwara) vs Favor (Eket)
Under-16 Girls: Haisat Abdulraheem (Kwara) vs Zainab Ishola (Lagos)
The finals are scheduled to take place tomorrow, Saturday, by 2:00 pm prompt at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
Reacting to the impressive showing of Team Kwara, the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, commended the athletes for their outstanding performance and urged them to crown their efforts with gold medals. He added that their success would not only bring glory to the state but also make Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the entire squash family in Kwara proud.
The tournament continues to highlight Kwara’s rising profile in nurturing young talents and sustaining its legacy as a powerhouse in Nigerian squash.
