Kwara State Government has begun compensating landowners for the acquisition of 2,100 hectares of land for the extension of the Industrial Park, a project launched in 2023.
According to ESV Abdulkareem Babatunde Sulyman, Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Geographic Information Service (KWGIS), the acquired land spans over 15 communities in the Asa Local Government Area.
“The government does not buy land; rather, compensation is paid in line with constitutional provisions to exhaust all subsisting rights on the acquired land,” Sulyman stated. “Today is a special day as we flag off the payment of compensation to assess customary landowners, land purchasers, and farmers.”
The state government has approved the release of over ₦500 million to settle all affected claims, improvements, and interests for more than 1,000 beneficiaries. Sulyman commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his developmental strides and urged beneficiaries to ensure judicious use of the funds.
The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, expressed gratitude to the governor on behalf of the beneficiaries. Community leaders pledged their support for the project, which is expected to bring job opportunities and growth to the area.
