Kwara State Government Launches Summer Edition of Coding and Digital Literacy Programme

The Kwara State Government under the leadership of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has officially commenced the Summer Holiday Edition of the Kwara Coding and Digital Literacy Programme, reinforcing its commitment to equipping young people with essential digital skills and innovation capabilities.

The programme, which kicked off on Monday, August 4, 2025, is being implemented across several public schools in the state through the Office of the Special Assistant to the Governor on Digital Innovation. This holiday edition focuses on Innovation Thinking, empowering students to solve real-world problems using technology.

Participants are undergoing intensive training in areas such as Web Development and Python Programming, depending on their assigned centres. In addition to technical instruction, students are engaging in structured ideation sessions designed to nurture creativity and transform concepts into viable digital projects. The goal is to instill not only practical skills but also the mindset needed to build sustainable and impactful solutions.

As part of the launch activities, a high-level delegation led by the Honourable Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Segun Ogunsola, and the Honourable Commissioner for Social Development, Hajia Maryam Nnafatima Imam, PhD, visited the Batakpon centre in Edu Local Government Area. The team assessed ongoing training, interacted with students, and delivered additional digital equipment to enhance the learning experience. Instructors proudly presented student-built prototypes, commending the state government for its visionary approach to youth empowerment.

A joint monitoring team comprising representatives from the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, the Ministry of Business Innovation and Technology, and Senatorial supervisory officers also conducted oversight visits to other training centres to ensure smooth implementation and quality delivery. Several media organisations were on ground to cover the activities and highlight the enthusiasm of participating students.

Parents, guardians, and members of host communities across the participating centres have expressed joy and appreciation to the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his visionary leadership and commitment to transforming the state through impactful youth-focused initiatives. Many described the programme as a life-changing opportunity for their children and a bold step toward positioning Kwara as a hub for digital innovation in Nigeria.

Earlier in the year, the Kwara State Government expanded the Kwara Coding and Digital Literacy Programme to over 50 public secondary schools across the state. This strategic scale-up introduced thousands of students to foundational digital literacy and coding skills. The ongoing summer holiday edition is a direct continuation of this effort, deepening students’ exposure to coding, innovation thinking, and hands-on project development.

So far, over 5,700 students out of the 7,500 targeted have been enrolled in the programme, reflecting strong community interest and widespread acceptance. The initiative is not only enhancing digital inclusion but also laying the groundwork for a generation of problem-solvers equipped to thrive in the global digital economy.
