In a move aimed at transforming Kwara into a modern and visually appealing state, the Kwara State Government under the leadership of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has revoked all 2024 signage and billboard licenses across the state. This decision follows an earlier notification suspending all billboard licenses.
According to Hon. Bolanje Olukoju, Chairman of the Kwara State Taskforce Committee on Illegal Billboards and Signages and Commissioner for Communications, the revocation is necessary to facilitate the removal of unauthorized and improperly erected billages, posters, and light pole banners. “The initiative aligns with the Urban Renewal Programme of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration,” Olukoju explained.
The government has warned that identification of billboards is ongoing, and removal enforcement will commence next week. Owners of unidentified boards are urged to remove them immediately. Additionally, no new registrations or renewals of signages and billboard licenses will be processed until further notice.
As stated by Olukoju, “This temporary measure will allow the state to finalize a new regulatory framework for outdoor advertising.”
The move is part of the state’s efforts to enhance its aesthetics and standardize outdoor advertising, as previously announced by Olukoju during the inauguration of the Task Force Committee on Advertising and Signage Restructuring.
