Kwara Students Shine at National Kids Innovation Challenge 2025 – Igbaja Agritech Mini Emerges Among Top Three

Kwara State students have once again put the state in the national spotlight, earning accolades at the 2025 edition of the National Kids Innovation Challenge organized by The Destiny Trust.
The competition, held on September 20 at the Radisson Blu Anchorage Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, featured ten of Nigeria’s brightest young innovation teams, who showcased solutions across agriculture, health, logistics, education, and connectivity.
Kwara was represented by two finalist teams drawn from the state’s Coding and Digital Literacy Programme: Agritech Mini Dashboard from Igbaja Centre and VBOT Innovators from Queen Elizabeth School, Ilorin.
The Agritech Mini Dashboard team emerged among the top three winners with a project designed to empower farmers with localized market prices, weather forecasts, planting insights, and real-time security incident reporting. Built with data from the Igbaja community, the solution emphasizes scalability and food security. Notably, it was the only non-hardware-based project to make the top three, highlighting the ingenuity of Kwara’s young innovators.
The VBOT Innovators also impressed with their “Virtual Doctor Bot,” a health-focused chatbot capable of analyzing symptoms, offering medical guidance, and directing patients to nearby health facilities with emergency integration.
This year’s challenge saw nine Kwara student teams submit entries, four advancing to the pre-demo stage, and two reaching the national finals—further cementing the state’s reputation as a hub for youth-driven innovation.
Speaking on the achievement, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Digital Innovation praised the students’ performance as a reflection of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s sustained investment in human capital and technology:
“This success is a clear reflection of His Excellency’s visionary commitment to digital literacy and innovation. For the first time, government school students in Kwara are competing—and winning—on the national innovation stage. This is historic.”
The Kwara Coding and Digital Literacy Programme, supported by the state government in partnership with Kidstech Africa, has been equipping young people with skills in creativity, problem-solving, and technology.
The winning projects are expected to be showcased at the Kwara Coding & Digital Literacy Exhibition in October 2025, where more groundbreaking student innovations will be unveiled to the public.
