Mogaji Presents Medals to Kwara Karate Athletes, Applauds Governor AbdulRazaq’s Sports Vision

Kwara State’s growing reputation in national sports received another boost as athletes of the Kwara State Karate Association recorded an impressive performance at the Dragon Shotokan Club National Open Karate Championship held from November 27 to 30, 2025, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
The team, sponsored and supported under the sports development vision of His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, participated in four major events—Individual Kata, Individual Kumite, Team Kata, and Team Kumite—with 12 athletes proudly representing the state.
Their outstanding outing produced a total of five medals, including:
1 Gold – Bashir Nurudeen
3 Silvers – Afeez Bashir, Team Kata, Team Kumite
1 Bronze – Adam Muydeen
This achievement aligns perfectly with Governor AbdulRazaq’s continued investment in grassroots and elite sports, aimed at producing champions capable of competing on national and international stages.
To celebrate the athletes’ success, the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Coach Bola Mogaji, hosted the team on December 1, 2025, at his temporary office at the Kwara Football Academy, George Innih Stadium, Ilorin. During the event, he re-presented the medals and cash prizes the athletes won at the championship, acknowledging their commitment and the governor’s unwavering support.
Present at the ceremony were the Permanent Member representing Kwara Central at the Sports Commission, Mallam Dele Abubakar (MON); the team coach, Coach Akeem; and the association’s secretary, Mr. Ali.
Speaking during the presentation, Coach Mogaji applauded the athletes for bringing honour to the state and charged them to intensify their preparation for the forthcoming National Sports Festival.
“Your success is a reflection of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s vision and continuous investment in the sports sector. I urge you to keep working hard and bring home even more gold medals at the National Sports Festival. Kwara State is destined to produce national champions, and you are part of that mission,” Mogaji stated.
In his response, Coach Akeem, speaking on behalf of the athletes and the association, expressed profound gratitude to Governor AbdulRazaq for his sponsorship, encouragement, and unmatched commitment to sports development in the state. He also thanked Coach Mogaji for his leadership and constant support.
“We are grateful to His Excellency for believing in the potential of Kwara athletes and investing in our growth. We assure the state that we will continue to work hard and make Kwara proud in future competitions,” he said.
With this strong showing, the Kwara State Karate Association has once again demonstrated the positive impact of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s sports policies and the growing strength of the state’s athletes on the national scene.
