MTN Nigeria is providing free airtime and internet to the returnees to aid in their resettlement in Nigeria as Nigeria welcomes back the first group of refugees fleeing Sudan.
Since April 15, a brutal conflict has been raging in the country of North Africa. Following repeated promises by the Federal Government to evacuate Nigerians trapped there, over 300 of them arrived at the Nnamdi Azikwe Airport in Abuja early on Thursday morning. Through the week, more evacuees are anticipated to come home.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Farouq, welcomed the evacuees at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Thursday morning and revealed that a number of organizations were helping with the ureturnees’ resettlement efforts.
“Today, we are very happy to receive them. They have gone through a very traumatic period but we give thanks to Almighty Allah that all of them are back safely. No life was lost which is the most important thing.
All of the work done was not in vain. I want to express my gratitude to every committee member who has worked tirelessly to bring these folks back in a respectful and safe manner. We appreciate the help from the transportation providers.
“There is N100,000 that would be used to bring them back to their homes; this is backed by the Dangote Foundation, which is also providing them with dignity kits, 25,000 MTN recharge cards, and 1.5 GB of data.
