Nigerian Wig Fair Met with Hostility by Ghanaian Vendors
A Nigerian wig seller faced resistance from some local hair vendors in Ghana who accused her of undercutting their prices.
TradersThe Nigerian brand, Priceless Hairs, had organised a “wig fair” in Accra on Monday, but the event was disrupted by a group of Ghanaian vendors who carried placards and chanted slogans against the foreign retailer.
A video posted on TikTok showed the chaotic scene at the venue, with the caption, “Pricelesshairs wig fair wahala…MAKOLA wigs association don’t want the sales to go on.”
Priceless Hairs also shared some photos on its Instagram page, showing some of the placards that read, “Go back to your country”, “No way for foreign retailers”, “You can’t crash Ghana,” and so on.
The brand later issued a statement, asking its customers to leave the venue peacefully and avoid any confrontation with the protesters.
“I and my team have left. Please go home. I will not crash the hair prices in Ghana for them, and that is well understood. I will communicate you all later. Thank you Ghana market women, una don win. One love, one Africa #nigeriamustgo,” the statement read.
