Renowned academic and community leader, Professor Fatai Aremu, Dadin-Kowa, has revealed how his passion for community development began shortly after his secondary school days.
Speaking on Gbagede Ara, a popular program on SBS FM 96.9 Ilorin, on January 9, 2025, he shared how his journey of service started with small but impactful initiatives that have since grown into remarkable contributions to society.
Hosted by Akolawole Ishola and Olori Odelabi, the program provided a platform for Professor Aremu to reflect on his early efforts in education and community support. He recounted how he organized free tutorial classes for students after completing secondary school. His commitment to education led him to sponsor JAMB forms for students and solicit funds for those struggling to pay for their SSCE examinations.
His passion for community upliftment did not wane even after stepping into the professional world. At just 25 to 26 years old, he became a school principal in Sokoto State and later served as the Secretary of the Principals’ Association in the state. Under his leadership, his school gained recognition for its outstanding academic performance, a testament to his unwavering dedication to human capital development.
Upon returning to Ilorin as a lecturer in Political Science at the University of Ilorin, Professor Aremu continued his mission of empowering communities. Over the years, his contributions have extended beyond education to human capital investment, provision of social amenities such as water, and various other community development interventions.
His selfless efforts have positively impacted countless lives, earning him respect as a champion of grassroots development. Today, he remains committed to fostering progress and ensuring that his legacy of service continues to inspire future generations.
Dadin-Kowa, is indeed a beacon of hope, proving that true leadership is measured by the impact made in the lives of others.
