Kwara State athletes delivered outstanding performances at the maiden edition of the West Africa Para Games, which took place from November 25 to December 3, 2025.
Their impressive outing reinforced the growing dominance of Kwara State in para sports and highlighted the success of the state’s continued investment in athletes with special needs.
The state’s medal haul cut across four different sports:
Halimat Lawal – Para Shooting: 1 Gold Medal
Aishat Yahaya – Wheelchair Basketball: 2 Gold Medals
Ayuba Yahaya – Para Badminton: 2 Silver Medals
Sharafadeen Lekan – Amputee Football: 1 Gold Medal
The stellar results once again reflected the unwavering commitment of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to sports development, especially in the area of inclusivity and empowerment of persons with disabilities. His sustained investment in facilities, training, and welfare continues to create platforms for Kwara athletes to compete and excel at international levels.
The achievements also underscored the proactive leadership of the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, whose dedication to nurturing talents and promoting para sports has strengthened Kwara’s reputation in the region.
As the curtain falls on the 1st West Africa Para Games, Kwara State stands tall, celebrating its champions and reaffirming its place as a leading hub for developing athletes regardless of physical ability into world-class achievers.
