Former England star Theo Walcott calls time on his football career at 34

Theo Walcott, who was once hailed as one of the most promising young talents in English football, has decided to hang up his boots at the age of 34. The winger announced his retirement from professional football on Friday, after an 18-year career that saw him play for Southampton, Arsenal, and Everton.

 

Walcott made more than 560 appearances for his clubs, scoring 129 goals. He also represented England at the senior level, making his debut at the age of 17 and becoming the youngest player to score a hat-trick for the national team at 19. He was part of the England squad for the 2006 World Cup, despite not having played a single international match before.

 

Walcott’s career was hampered by injuries, which limited his impact and opportunities. He scored eight goals in 47 caps for England, with his last appearance coming in 2016.

 

Walcott expressed his gratitude to everyone who supported him throughout his journey, from his first pair of football boots to his final game for Southampton.

 

“I’ve shared the football pitch with so many incredible players and we have created so many unforgettable memories,” he wrote on Instagram.
