Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has vowed to purge the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of vampires and pirates and rebuild the party.
Wike asserted that he and other like-minded individuals will reassemble the PDP into a powerful political force despite the antics of those who divided the party in an effort to realize their excessive ambition.
On Thursday, he gave a speech at the opening of a 10 km internal road built by his administration in the State’s Igwuruta town’s Ikwerre Local Government Area.
After the general election, individuals who disregarded the PDP constitution’s rules regarding the rotation of elective and appointed offices will be expelled from the party, according to the head of the G-5 Governors.
We have completed the first phase of the conflict, and now we are moving on to the second. We must exterminate the vampires and buccaneers in the second stage of the conflict. We’re going to drive them away from the party, take control of it, and rebuild it.
“These individuals quit our party in 2014 or 2015, and we lost the election. They have returned once more, and our party has lost. Our celebration has been devastated by them. They will be expelled from our party by us. They don’t participate in our celebration in any way.
Wike claimed that the PDP’s national leadership, which openly ignored Section 7 (3) C of the party’s constitution, was acting hypocritically constitution that recommends rotation of elective and appointive offices, to accuse the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of not following its guidelines for the conduct of the 2023 general election.
“You’re accusing the chairman of INEC; he didn’t follow the rules. Did you abide by our own constitution, you? Equity seekers must arrive with spotless hands. “You will harvest what you sow,” stated Wike.
The Governor reaffirmed that the national leadership of the PDP engaged in anti-party behavior by violating Section 7 (3) C of the PDP constitution, which contributed to the party’s disgraceful defeat in the presidential election.
“I am a proponent of power transition,” Wike declared. I battled for it. I don’t owe anyone an apology. I asserted that the center of power must move southward. I didn’t violate any party laws. I battled for national harmony. They engaged in anti-party behavior at the national level in the PDP.
What is more anti-party than when people disregard the provisions of their party’s constitution that address the zoning of elective and appointed offices? You who disobey the rules of your party’s constitution out of a sense of impunity or because you believe you have enough supporters to do so.
The governor claimed that if not for the stubbornness of individuals who mistakenly believed that a particular clique in Aso Rock Villa would install them, the PDP’s loss in the presidential election could have been avoided.
The governor claimed that by winning all three senatorial elections and nine out of ten House of Representative seats so far announced by INEC, Rivers has demonstrated its continued support for the PDP in the state.
He also made fun of Chibuike Amaechi, his predecessor and the previous minister of transportation, whom he charged with inciting hostility between the residents of Rivers and their Igbo neighbors.
The Governor claimed Amaechi’s efforts to revive the long-forgotten subject of abandoned property for his excessive political agenda reeked of deceit.
