Tragedy in Delta: Army Hunts for Assailants After Deadly Ambush on 16 Soldiers In Okuoma, Few Arrested
In a somber declaration, the Nigerian Army has initiated an extensive manhunt for the perpetrators behind the tragic killing of 16 soldiers in Okuoma, Delta State. The soldiers, part of the 181 Amphibious Battalion, were on a peacekeeping mission when they were ambushed and slain by local youths on Thursday, 14 March 2024.
The deadly encounter unfolded as the troops responded to a distress call amid a communal clash between the Okuama and Okoloba communities. A subsequent attack on the reinforcement team resulted in further casualties, including the unit’s Commanding Officer, two Majors, one Captain, and 12 soldiers.
General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, has ordered an immediate investigation into the attack and the swift apprehension of those responsible for this heinous act. The incident has been formally reported to the Delta State Government.
