Police and hunters rescue abducted herder, kill two kidnappers in Osun
A Fulani herder, Alhaji Adamu, who was kidnapped by a group of armed men in Abase Village, Iwo West LCDA, Osun State, on Tuesday morning, has been rescued by a joint team of police and local hunters.
The security operatives engaged the kidnappers, who were said to be 11 in number and of Bororo extraction, in a gun battle in the bush, where they had taken Adamu after attacking his farm.
According to a security source who was part of the operation, two of the kidnappers were shot dead during the exchange of fire, while the rest escaped with bullet wounds.
The source said that the victim was taken to a hospital in Iwo town for treatment, while the corpses of the slain kidnappers were deposited at the police station in Iwo.
He added that the security team had returned to the bush to search for the remaining kidnappers, who were believed to be hiding there.
The spokesperson of the Osun Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident and appealed for more collaboration from the public to curb crime in the state.
