Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen becomes highest scoring African player ever in the Italian Serie A following his winning goal in Napoli’s 1-0 win over Fiorentina on Sunday (today).
The 24-year-old resumed his heroics against Fiorentina at the Diego Maradona Stadium where his club was celebrating winning the Serie A championship after leading Napoli to its first trophy in 33 years.
Osimhen’s historic goal, his 47th in the Italian league, was scored from the penalty spot in the 74th minute.
In order to break George Weah’s record of 46 goals, which stood since 1999, he sent the goalkeeper the wrong way, enraging the Napoli crowd.
Prior to that, the ex-Lille forward missed a penalty kick that would have given Napoli the lead.
Osimhen now has 23 league goals this season, putting him in prime position to break the record for most goals scored in the league.
