The Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, has confirmed that the Kwara State contingent to the Gateway Games 2024 will depart Ilorin for Abeokuta on Friday, 16th May 2025, ahead of the festival’s official opening ceremony on Sunday.
Speaking at a media briefing held at the Handball Court of the Sports Commission, Mogaji announced that Team Kwara will participate in 25 sports, with 189 athletes among the 320-member contingent representing the state.
He expressed appreciation to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his full support, particularly for the prompt approval of funding and logistics to ensure a smooth and successful participation.
“I want to sincerely thank His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his total commitment to sports development in Kwara State,” Mogaji said. “This administration has made giant strides in infrastructure, youth development, empowerment, engagement, and social inclusivity through sports.”
He also encouraged athletes to maintain discipline and integrity, warning against the temptation to indulge in performance-enhancing drugs or any form of unethical conduct.
“With the level of preparation and the commitment from our coaches and athletes, I am confident that Team Kwara will exceed our previous medal record,” he added.
Team Captain Blessing Isaac also expressed optimism, assuring that the athletes are ready to compete with discipline and pride. She thanked the Sports Commission for its continued support and motivation leading into the two-week national festival.
