Pogba Tests Positive For Testosterone, Faces 4-Year-Ban
Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has been suspended provisionally after testing positive for testosterone, a banned substance, Italy’s anti-doping agency announced Monday.
The French international was tested after Juventus’ game at Udinese on Aug. 20, where he did not play but was on the bench. The agency, Nado Italia, said that Pogba’s backup “B” sample would be tested and that he could face a suspension of up to four years if found guilty.
This is the latest setback for Pogba, who has been plagued by injuries and controversies since rejoining Juventus from Manchester United in 2022. He missed the World Cup last year due to a knee injury and has been involved in a police investigation in France over allegations of extortion by his older brother, Mathias, who has denied any wrongdoing.
Pogba’s positive test also adds to Juventus’ woes following a season marred by legal cases over false accounting and irregular reporting of salary payments. The Turin club was banned by UEFA from European competition this season as a result.
Pogba and Juventus have not commented on the matter yet.
