President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given the green light to a salary boost, with increments of 35% and 23%, for employees working in federal tertiary institutions. This pay increase is set to take effect on January 1, 2023.
The announcement of this salary adjustment came through an official memorandum from the office of the Auditor-General.
It was addressed to Directors of Audit, Heads of Departments, Heads of Units, and all staff members.
The memo elaborated that the approval for this salary hike was granted during the 13th meeting of the Presidential Committee on Salaries.
The decision was made after thorough consideration of collective bargaining stages across various sectors, particularly the negotiations between the Federal Ministry of Education and the unions representing tertiary institutions.
These salary increments will be applicable to the following pay structures:
I. The Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Salary Structure (CONPCASS) for academic staff of federal polytechnics and colleges of education.
II. The Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure II (CONTISS II) for non-academic staff in federal universities.
III. The Consolidated Tertiary Education Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS) for non-academic staff in federal polytechnics and colleges of education.
IV. The Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure II (CONUASS II) for academic staff in federal universities.
The memorandum also confirmed that the arrears associated with the salary increase will be retroactively paid from January 1, 2023.
