Two police officers sacked for extorting foreign tourist in Nigeria

Two Nigerian police officers have been sacked for trying to extort money from a Dutch woman who was riding a power bike across the country.

The incident, which was captured on video and went viral on social media, showed the officers stopping the woman along Moniya-Iseyin road and asking her to pay them money.

The woman, who said she was travelling from Lagos to Abuja, refused to comply and challenged the officers on their authority.

The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Hamzat Adebola, confirmed the dismissal of the officers, identified as Jimoh Lukmon and Kareem Fatai, at a press conference at the state’s Police Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan.

He said the officers, who were part of the special constabulary scheme, had violated the code of conduct and ethics of the force and tarnished its image.

He also warned other officers to desist from such acts of corruption and misconduct, saying they would face severe consequences if caught.
