2027 Politics: We Will Merge LP With PDP To Help Us Win The Coming Presidential Election – Peter Obi
Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, has addressed the possibility of a merger between the Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In an interview on NoireTV-GlobalBlackTV, released on YouTube on Saturday, Obi responded to the prospect of being supported as a Southeast candidate in the 2027 presidential election by Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s 2023 flagbearer. He expressed gratitude for Abubakar’s supportive statements, especially when Abubakar indicated he would support Obi if the presidential ticket went to the South East.
However, Obi emphasized that his primary concern is not personal ambition or political manoeuvring. Instead, he is “desperate to see Nigeria work,” particularly for the benefit of the poor population, given the country’s vast potential. Regarding the potential merger between the PDP and LP, Obi expressed openness to the idea, but with a condition: the merger must aim to better govern Nigeria and unlock its potential. He clarified that he has no interest in mergers or alliances solely to secure winning elections. Obi firmly stated that he would not participate in any merger driven by electoral motives or state capture.
Unity and cooperation are crucial, according to the former Anambra State governor. Whether at the party level or individual level, coming together is essential to build a better Nigeria. 🇳🇬
