In a show of compassion and deep respect for the contributions of late veteran athletics coach, Coach Harrison Obiajulu Momah, the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has donated the sum of One Million Naira to the bereaved family during his lying-in-state ceremony held today, Friday, April 11, 2025, in Ilorin.
The solemn event took place at the iconic Rashidi Yekini Mainbowl, located within the George Agbazika Innih Stadiumcomplex in Ilorin, where members of the sporting community, friends, family, and former athletes gathered to pay their last respects to a man many described as a pillar in the development of athletics in Kwara State and Nigeria at large.
Governor AbdulRazaq, who was ably represented by the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, conveyed the heartfelt condolences of the state government to the family. In his remarks, Mallam Mogaji described the late Coach Momah as a dedicated mentor, a disciplinarian, and a father figure who shaped the careers of countless athletes across generations.
“His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, acknowledges the immense contributions of Coach Momah to the development of sports, especially athletics, in Kwara State. This token of N1 million is a modest support to the family during this difficult time,” Mogaji said.
Coach Harrison Momah, a respected figure in the Nigerian athletics scene, served the state and the nation with unwavering dedication. He was known not only for producing champions on the track but also for instilling discipline and excellence in his protégés. Many of his former athletes have represented Nigeria at national and international competitions.
The event witnessed the presence of top officials from the Kwara State Sports Commission, coaches, representatives of various sports associations, and other dignitaries, all of whom testified to the legacy of hard work and integrity that Coach Momah left behind.
As the state bids farewell to one of its finest sporting icons, the gesture from Governor AbdulRazaq has been lauded as a timely and humane response that underscores the government’s commitment to honoring its heroes, both living and departed.
Coach Momah is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
