Kwara Wins Fourth National Debate Title, SUBEB Lauds Gov AbdulRazaq’s Education Reforms

Kwara State has once again affirmed its status as a national leader in academic excellence as Team Kwara emerged overall winner of the 2025 Presidential School Debate Championship in the Junior Secondary School category, securing the state’s fourth consecutive national title.
The latest victory adds to an already historic year for Kwara, as the state’s representatives also clinched international honours by winning the 2025 Asia Parliamentary Debate Championship held in Malaysia in December.
Reacting to the twin achievements, the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) described the feats as a reflection of sustained investment in basic education under the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, who also chairs the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.
Today, 17th December 2025, in a statement signed by the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Prof. Sheu Raheem Adaramaja, the Board attributed the repeated national and international successes to the Governor’s education-centred reforms, which have prioritised quality teaching, improved learning infrastructure, and programmes that enhance critical thinking and communication skills among learners.
According to SUBEB, these reforms have created an enabling environment that allows students to compete favourably with their peers across Nigeria and beyond, while also nurturing confidence, leadership, and intellectual depth at the basic education level.
The Board commended the commitment of teachers, debate coaches, school administrators, and parents, whose collective efforts contributed to the remarkable performances of Team Kwara on both national and international stages.
SUBEB noted that the latest victories further reinforce Kwara State’s reputation as a hub for academic excellence and youth development, positioning the state as a benchmark for educational growth in Nigeria.
The Board also reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the momentum and expanding platforms that promote academic competitiveness and global exposure for learners across the state.
