Chrisland High School in Ikeja has been reopened on condition by the Lagos government.
The order was issued by Folasade Adefisayo, the commissioner for education, in a letter addressed to Chrisland School on Monday.
Whitney Adeniran, a student at the Lagos school, died on February 9 during a sporting event at Agege Stadium.
Blessing Whitney’s mother, Adeniran, accused Chrisland of withholding information about her daughter’s death.
As a result, the state ministry of education ordered the school’s temporary closure pending an investigation.
Adefisayo stated in the letter that the education ministry has given Chrisland High School Ikeja permission to reopen for SS3 and JSS3 students.
The letter added that the management of the school has been invited to a meeting with the ministry on March 30.
“You are hereby informed that the Ministry has approved the reopening of your Ikeja campus to students of the terminal classes, i.e. JSS3 & SS3 only to enable them to prepare for their upcoming exams,” the letter reads.
“Furthermore, Chrisland Group of Schools is hereby invited to a meeting at the conference room of the ministry on Thursday 30 March at 12 noon.”
Adeniran died as a result of asphyxia and electrocution, according to an autopsy performed on February 15.
The school has already issued a public apology, but an inquest into the case is set to begin on April 4.
According to the justice ministry, Chrisland and some of its employees will be charged with manslaughter and negligence.
